"What I’m proud of about this experience, is how my expectations were absolutely not satisfied and yet the results were far more enjoyable. I enjoyed being proven wrong! I walked out of my comfort zone and yet survived! Heck, I kind of like it here! And even if at some point, I realize that I was wrong, I would be happy to change things again! I’m confident that I can figure something out."
"The experience was useful for my future in multiple facets. The most obvious one, is in how I plan for more long-term projects based in platforms which I am previously unfamiliar with or types of projects I haven’t done previously. I certainly will not be launching myself into another project with the lack of planning that I did for the original project idea of doing an interview show. In fairness to myself, the strategies and resources introduced in class were not something which I had been previously introduced to, but I can now implement for future projects. In hindsight, the fact that I wasn’t thinking about how to plan out the basic steps is now baffling to me. Yet reminiscing about this is only useful as a reminder that I have to learn from my mistakes in the future. Speaking of learning from my mistakes, that’s another facet which the experience was useful for. It really made me realize that while I do need to continue to dig in when things get tough, there are also limits to what I can do on certain projects in certain situations. So in the future, I will be able to severely cut down on the length of time I get stuck on projects I can’t complete at the moment. My persistence will remain, but I choose to work smarter, rather than relying on hard work alone."

"This experience will help me in extreme ways for future learning and career. I now have a better understanding of what it takes to start a real-world project. "By starting a project that we have always wanted to start but never had that the time to do so, I could finally try my ideas and see if it was something I wanted to continue as part of my future career. This experience also showed me the concept that “we all have the choice for our future career”. "I learned how to intrinsically motivate myself by setting small goals so I would have something to celebrate almost every week for example. I also loved the freedom that came with working alone. Working by yourself teaches you so much but I also learned that it's important to have a community. They have a different perspective than you and can help you see things you don’t. "I've been looking for reasons to change my self-sabotaging ways for a very long time. I’ve always known that I need to change my mindset if I want to grow. This experience helped me identify the specific things in my mindset that need to change for me to give myself space to grow. Like multitasking instead of feeling like it’s only possible to focus on one thing at a time. This one is hard but embracing failure or not doing as well as expected. There’s a lot of times where I have an expected outcome in my head and then in real life things don’t turn out that way. Writing a piece of code that doesn’t work or starting something and not being able to finish it in the time I designate because I’ve come across a lot more problems than expected. Learning how to go with the flow. As I have mentioned above, my mindset and thinking has really never been dynamic. I’ve never allowed myself to be an “explorer” even though I so desperately want to be one. This experience has allowed me to learn how to be free. It has taught me I don’t need to live inside a box because there is a whole world out there waiting for me. I still spend some time trying to remind myself of this. There’s a quote I saw a couple of days ago saying that says: “Stop living in fear. Embrace uncertainty and use it to your advantage"."
"I grew a lot throughout this experience and constantly looked for ways to better myself. It did take me a while for me to get into the groove of things but it was really helpful having feedback so I knew what to tackle next. By the end, I became really good at defeating my inner critic, finding my voice and pace, and communicating with others around me."
"The inner critic, a concept that stuck with me, applies as much to perfectionism as it does to comparison. And I think that I was able to edge my way closer towards self-compassion and creativity over the semester. I learned to quiet the inner critic by accepting that quality would come with quantity. This lowered the stakes significantly, and I recognized that this was my first attempt at my project or its first iteration and that it didn’t have to be the next big thing."

"At the start, I wasn’t sure if I was going to learn a lot from peers because there weren’t many people with similar passion projects as me. I was quickly shown that no matter what people are working on, you can always relate and learn from them. I really loved that everyone was working on different things, it made the journey so much more interesting and enjoyable. This taught me the importance of surrounding yourself with likeminded people because it will help motivate, inspire, and push you to become the best you can be."
"Looking back at this short journey, I learned so much to even explain. I must live through them to see the results. About myself, I learned that my skillset is far more sophisticated and useful than I thought. I learned that I have to take them seriously and respect myself! I learned that I need to be patient with myself and don’t let go of an idea before I have a solid result. In terms of the project, I learned that it is too vague for many to understand. This is not because the project is bad, it’s simply too immature for now. I realized that it may not be the best project I ever worked on, but it did make the biggest impression on me. But above all, I learned to not be scared of making a fool of myself! It is such a pity that as a kid, I was not at all scared of such things, not sure what happened! I guess I have to grow back down! I am now far less scared of expressing myself and my ideas than before. I think this is crucial to the success of any project. I can see now that what I once believed to be a difficulty may just have been a hiccup."

"I learned that, for me, wanting to do something is not enough. There is a lot of internal work that affects the success of any project that I undertake. It’s very easy to place that internal work on the backburner because it’s invisible—it doesn’t produce any concrete artifacts—but it is possibly what sets high performers apart from others in the long run. I learned that being mindful about nurturing my motivation is going to be very important for me moving forward. Though it seems to be on a long time-horizon ahead, I have taken steps across several avenues to address what is probably undiagnosed ADHD. I have also learned that accountability is foundational to my success. I am very good at producing deliverables when others are relying on it, but it is so much easier to disappoint myself. The negative consequences of letting someone down are clear and immediate, but when I am the only one in the picture, the effects are insidious and cumulative, adding bricks to my wall of awful. This is yet another reason to find one or more accountability partners. Lastly, I've learned that self-compassion is a blind spot that will continue to hold me back unless addressed. As someone with perfectionistic tendencies, self-compassion does not come easily. This may be another area that requires re-framing in the context of CBT and it is crucial in j\informing my attitudes towards tasks."
"Throughout this experience, I learnt that my highest form of intrinsic motivation is derived from when I’m focusing on a few challenging tasks, that I work best while having large portions of time dedicated to one creative task at a time, that adapting a task oriented schedule while scheduling time to reflect on and taking action to explore any ambiguous points is vital for the longevity of the projects I work on. Moreover, requiring regular reflections to ensure my actions stay client-oriented and not affected by my ego, ensuring that I execute work-oriented “backburners” quickly and, most importantly, have some form of an external high-consequence accountability throughout my time invested in a project."

This experience is filled with many people who are pursuing their dream and the room is full with passion and opportunities to grow and make connections. Listen to the feedback of your stakeholders because that’s how you can make your project better. No one is better equipped to help you learn more about your project than those who are engaging with it. Overall, set deadlines with small goals, and don't waste a second."
"My highlight was meeting new people and sharing my project with them. I was able to learn how to elevator pitch my project while sharing in the enthusiasm of other’s successes. Although I have never found it difficult to talk about my project, my ideas were more embraced in this class than I have felt before. I believe the community-driven approach allowed me to fully express my ideas unfiltered which helped me to see areas I can improve. Without the candid environment, people would not feel as comfortable sharing all their ideas. Yet this community that was built here, is what made this class such a success."
"I don't remember who said it but I believe the quote was “rejection is redirection” which I really found value in. It made me think more about what the word rejection means and how to turn it into positive fuel, preparing me to work even harder. This also led me to think about another quote that I love which is “when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” This is incredibly true about my journey. For example, instead of looking at the work that I am struggling with, with frustration, I can take this opportunity to instead look at the moment as an opportunity for growth and experimentation."
"I think, in full honesty with myself, I was not as successful as I hoped to be. While I attribute this to my personal difficulties, I also remain mindful that I am at the wheel, and it is my duty to find ways to work through my responsibilities despite my own struggles along the way. I think that while I definitely maintained a passing level of effort, I wish very much that my circumstances had been better and that I had been able to better contribute to discussions with peers, as well as taken more initiative to get as much as there was to be had. I am very grateful for what I have learned, and really wish that I had given as consistent and high quality work into this experience as I have taken from it. It gave me the motivation, encouragement, and strength to believe in myself, my wants, my dreams, and my aspirations for the future. I had no idea I would get this from the course as I expected I would be working alone 99% of the time and never talk to anyone else."
"This experience was what I expected it to be, it is very much self-led which is both helpful and challenging because it puts the onus back on us. However, this has been good for me because I've been able to manage my time in a way that I felt was the most effective."
"The key takeaway is to be actively involved in and speaking with others about your passion project. It is okay to not thoroughly understand everything about your project, but you should still be speaking and sharing it with others. This experience was great, it did enhance some of my skills, and allowed me to have a safe space to discuss more about passion projects."
